Body Massages

Receiving a massage does more than just relax the body. There are specific physiological and psychological changes that occur, even more so when massage is utilized as a preventive, frequent therapy and not simply a mere luxury. But massage does not "cure" anybody; massage helps to bring positive change to the body so that it can heal and/or better cope with the stress caused by a condition. It is a holistic and preventative treatment that can maintain tissue health by increasing its circulation, supplying nutrition, increasing drainage - thereby removing wastes - and decreasing pain. Therapeutic massage can maintain general health by decreasing stress and stress related hormones thus maintaining the function of our immune system and decreasing the chance of stress-imposed diseases and conditions. The most popular benefit of massage is that it is both relaxing and invigorating. It is an excellent way to help rid the body of tension and to achieve a sense of overall well-being.

Swedish Massage

The most common type of massage is Swedish massage therapy. By relieving muscle tension, Swedish massages can be both relaxing and energizing. A session lasts for 45 to 60 minutes, and addresses most major muscle groups of the body. With Swedish sessions I can target specific areas of pain like a sprained ankle or stiff shoulder, or help manage the chronic pain that comes with conditions like arthritis. By using strokes that improve circulation and increase body-wide relaxation, the massage can help make many painful conditions more bearable. The long strokes towards the heart drain metabolic waste from the limbs of the body and other strokes like cross-fibre friction work out the kinks that can accompany injured muscles. These strokes help get rid of scar tissue and return the muscles to their normal, relaxed, healthy state.Top

Kahuna Massage

The Rolls Royce of Massage! :-) The age old healing art of Hawaiian Kahuna massage is a unique, flowing, energetically vibrant yet deeply relaxing whole-body massage. I use my hands and forearms in long fluid strokes of varying intensity and rhythm up and down and all around the body. The session also incorporates stretches, under-body work, deep tissue techniques and rhythmic music. The energising effects of these stimulating movements and creative techniques are combined with clear healing intent and invocations for positive transformation on all levels. The radiant quality of Kahuna touch communicates love, awareness, balance and compassion. As I do massage the stomach and chest (NOT breasts) it is suggested to uncover the upper part of the body but this is not a must. You may undress to the level that you feel comfortable. Aromatherapy

The combination of essential oils with intuitive and Swedish massage techniques led to the contemporary practice of Aromatherapy as a healing art. Aromatherapy is an holistic, complementary health-care discipline. My main treatment method is a full body massage, using essential oils diluted in a base of vegetable oil. Each oil has its own medicinal, cosmetic or other properties. Research has confirmed the value of the oils, and we now know that these fragrant oils have antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal as well as antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antineuralgic, antispasmodic, antitoxic, antidepressant, sedative, analgesic, hypo- and hypertensol, digestive, expectorating, circulatorystimulating and many more qualities.Top

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone massage is rated as a relaxation technique. It is not performed as deep as Swedish massage but with a lot of similar movements. I use basalt stones that are heated in water directly onto the body. The thermal qualities of the hot stones on the body of my client induce a nurturing feeling of deep relaxation.Top

Abhyanga Ayurveda Massage

The term Ayurveda comes from the Sanskrit word meaning 'science of life'. It is a complex ancient system of philosophy and medicine in which many massage techniques have their roots. Ayurveda considers balance and moderation to be essential for health, with the body and mind being closely linked. According to Ayurvedic thought, the universe is made up of five elements - ether, air, earth, fire and water - and human beings are made up of a combination of these elements. In addition, there are believed to be three doshas, or energies, that exist in all matter. These are called vata, pitta and kapha. But you don't have to believe any of this to enjoy the warm oil and the long gliding and energy balancing strokes that form part of the Abhyanga massage. Top

Reflexology

Reflexology operates on the belief that points throughout the body corresponds to different internal organs, glands and natural functions in the body. Applying pressure to Reflexology points promotes the proper flow of energy and restores balance to the body's systems. During a Reflexology session I use hand, thumb, and finger techniques to stimulate these reflex areas on my clients feet. The session also includes a soothing foot massage.

Indian Head & Shoulder Massage

An Indian Head massage, as the name might imply, focuses not only on the head but also on the upper body, neck, shoulders, arms, upper back, face and ears. It helps to relax the muscles, improves the circulation, promotes healthy hair growth and lymph flow. It can help to relieve tension headaches, sinus problems and even eyestrain. For this technique, my clients sit in an upright position and according to preference, may stay fully clothed or may expose the back and shoulders.Top

Lymph Drainage Massage

Lymphatic drainage is a therapeutic massage treatment that uses lighter pressure and long, gentle, rhythmic or pumping strokes to increase the flow of lymph and reduce toxins in your body. I combine this treatment with a full body massage.Top

Rungu Stick Massage

In my Rungu Stick Massage I use a wooden 'knopkierie'-like stick to give attention to certain painful, stiff "trouble spots" of your body. The slow, deliberate strokes focus pressure on layers of muscles, tendons, or other tissues deep under your skin. Rungu Stick Massage can be quite therapeutic -- relieving chronic patterns of tension and helping with muscle injuries, aches and pains.Top
